  WCGC  Five Stand Fun Shoot!

  Five Stand is very similar to Sporting Clays in that a wide variety of targets are thrown. No two five-stand events are exactly alike. There are five “stands” or stations to shoot from. There are 6 traps that throw targets in different presentations. Participants shoot in turn at each of the 5 stands and various combinations of targets are thrown from the traps. There is a menu card that will advise the shooter of the sequence of targets and whether its a single, report or true pair.

  Five Stand is a great way to get a Sporting Clays like experience in a small amount of space, with very little walking.

  Members of the Winchester Canyon Gun Club Shooting Team will be present at all 5-Stand events to coach new shooters in the sporting clay discipline.

  As a new, or returning lapsed member, you need to complete a New Member Orientation before your membership is approved. 

  Orientations are conducted outdoors on the second and forth weekend of every month. The sessions are at 10:00 AM or 12:00 Noon each day (Saturday or Sunday). Please check the WCGC Website Calendar for exact dates and times.

  Registration is required, as space is limited. Please email membership@wcgc.org to reserve a space for Orientation.
  

  Prior to coming to the range, you are required to view a New Member Powerpoint Presentation that you will attest to viewing when you arrive. You are still required to demonstrate your ability to safely handle a firearm. After doing so, we will give you a tour of the facilities. Orientations usually last one hour.

  Bring a firearm with you to do the safe-handling demonstration. Do not bring any ammunition with you to the orientation. If you plan on shooting after the orientation, please leave all ammunition secured in your vehicle.

  This orientation is designed for new members (or those who have let their membership lapse). It covers the 4 basic rules of safe firearms handling, club and range specific rules/policies/procedures, and a hands on demonstration of proficiency of safe firearms handling. A tour of the facility and ranges is included.

  MUZZLE LOADING BLACK POWDER RIFLE AND PISTOL MATCHES take place once a month on the 200 yard rifle range. Competition is from the firing line out to 100 yards and 200 yards. Targets are steel gongs, with paper targets, located between 50 and 200 yards. Safe handling of old style muzzle loading arms and period dress and costumes are promoted.

  Set up at 10:00 am and match starts at 11:00 am. All levels of shooters welcome!

  If you are interested in rifle shooting, don't hesitate. Come on out, and you will have, at your disposal, any number of veteran competitive shooters, who are eager to help, and will go to great lengths to get you on your way to becoming competitive yourself. You will be surprised how quickly you will progress, and we know you will find that competitive shooters are a great bunch, with which to shoot and socialize.
  

  Matches are conducted by the Ranger Officer using range commands for each course of fire. Coaching and special consideration are afforded new shooters to the game, by veteran competitors and the Range Officer. All rifle matches are governed by the Rules and Regulations of The National Rifle Association of America, with top priority given to basic safety rules in accordance with the NRA, and Winchester Canyon Gun Club.

  Competitors use two different firearms -- a modern sporting rifle (MSR), that is, a rifle built on an AR-platform and a pistol. Matches generally involve courses where the shooter must move through different stages and engage targets in a variety of different positions. Each stage will generally require the use of different firearms and require the shooter to transition between them.

  Come join us for a fun and challenging shooting match. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, we welcome shooters of all skill levels. Our experienced staff will be on hand to help you every step of the way, from providing safety instructions to guiding you through the process.

  Don't miss out on this great opportunity to improve your shooting skills and have a great time!

  The targets might include clay pigeons, cardboard silhouettes, steel targets of varying sizes and anything else the match organizer designates as a target. Distances of the targets might vary from 1 yard to 200 yards or anything in between. The shooter who hits the most targets -- and avoids certain "no shoot" ones -- in the least amount of time is the winner.

  Match rules abide closely by those set up by the International Multi-Gun Association (IMGA) or the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA), which regulates some matches. Each of these organizations has guidelines and rules, but the ability to adapt them for specific matches is what makes 2-gun competition dynamic and exciting.

  Just as it is with the practical pistol matches, 2-gun simulates combat or self-defense situations. A stage provides a certain scenario for using one or more of the guns in a specific sequence. Each stage is each match will usually be different than any you've shot before.

  Please Note: The calendar states that the event begin at 11 am and that’s going to mean that the shooter’s brief starts at 11 am. Please be on site, paid, and prepared to start the shooter’s brief at those times. 

  Equipment

  • Rifles:
    Most serious competitors choose MSRs in .223 caliber with fairly short barrels in the 18- to 20-inch range and 10-round magazines. But any semi-auto that will handle larger magazines are normally permitted.
  • Pistols:
    Most shooters use 9mm semi-autos, but the .38 Super and .40 S&W are also popular in some divisions.
  • Accessories:
    Each shooter needs a holster for the pistol and some sort of belt/pouch system to carry extra magazines and ammo.
  • Ammo requirement will vary by match. Contact rangemanager@wcgc.org prior to the match for the current month's ammo requirement.

  The 200 Yard Range OPEN to MEMBERS at least once a month on a weekend. Members only. Check date on WCGC Calendar prior to coming to the range.

  Members only as no RSO will be on duty at the 200 Yard Range. Please make sure all Range Rules are followed as well as weekend fee is paid ($10.00 per day per member). Please check-in & pay at the R/P Range Office prior to going up to the 200 yard range.

  200 Yard Range Info

  1. All WCGC Range Rules must be followed in addition.
     
  2. The WCGC 200 Yard Range is OPEN to members Monday thru Friday, Sunrise to Sunset, unless noted on the WCGC Calendar as "Closed for Private Use". 
     
  3. During public hours of operation, access to the 200-yard range is limited to WCGC Board of Directors authorized events and under control of the Range Manager with coordination of the Event Chair or Match Director.  EXCEPTION: During public hours of operation, 200 Yard Range is open to members if not in use for special events  (Falling Plates/3-Gun/Muzzleloaders/CCW etc.) or if reserved by WCGC Authorized Instructor events. Please check WCGC Calendar for latest updates. 
     
  4. The WCGC 200-Yard Range is for Current Members, WCGC Certified Firearms Instructors, Law Enforcement and WCGC Special Events use only. No public use allowed. No WCGC RSO on duty on 200-Yard Range, use at own risk. 
     
  5. The WCGC 200-Yard Range hours are from sunrise to noon for bench rest shooters & noon to sunset for Dynamic Shooters. EXCEPTION: On weekends, if available, during Member use: Bench Rest use all day.
     
  6. All legally approved firearm types are permitted to be used. Modern Rifles 50 Caliber and larger are not allowed. The USFS has banned discharging all modern rifles 50 cal. BMG and larger at WCGC. The restriction is on modern high velocity cartridges, and does not apply to handguns, muzzle-loading firearms, or rifles chambered for one of the early black powder cartridges.
     
  7. No airborne targets.
     
  8. Do not place rocks on the range for any reason. Rocks cause ricochets.
     
  9. All Cease Fires must be coordinated between all shooters: Sunrise till noon (Bench Rest Shooters) Noon till sunset (Dynamic Shooters)
     
  10. The Handgun Range and 200 Yard Range are now isolated ranges. No need to coordinate cease fires between the two ranges.
      
  11. Do not shoot for any reason into the Hesco Barriers on the right side of the 200 Yard Range.
      
  12. The WCGC 200 Yard Range will be intermittently closed for LE Training/WCGC Approved Instructor Private Use during the week. Check the official WCGC Calendar on the WCGC website and emails for notification. www.wcgc.org/calendar • If the 200 Yard Range is not “Closed for LE Training/WCGC Approved Instructor Private Use” on the official WCGC Website Calendar, then the Range has not been reserved for private use. Private Range use has not been authorized. Please inform the members on the Range that it is Open to all members and to share the Range. Please show a copy of these Protocols as well as the WCGC Calendar. Be respectful, share the Range.
      
  13. Keep our Range CLEAN. Please clean-up / pick-up all brass and spent casing after use. All members, guests of members, private instructors and law enforcement are required to clean up all brass and trash after each use. Rakes, shovels, and trashcans are provided for your use.
      
  14. Be Responsible, Be Nice, and Have Fun.

  If the 200 Yard Range is not “Closed for LE Training or Private Use” on the official WCGC Website Calendar, then the Range has not been reserved for private use. Private Range use has not been authorized. Please inform the members on the Range that it is Open to all members and to share the Range. Please show a copy of these Protocols as well as the WCGC Calendar. Be respectful, share the Range.

  Before handling any firearm, familiarize yourself with these safety procedures:

  1. Know how the firearm operates — including safely opening and closing the action of the firearm and removing ammunition from the gun or its magazine. For free safety and operating instructions, write to the manufacturer or visit its website.
  2. Always keep a gun pointed in a safe direction, even when handling an unloaded gun — so that if it were to fire it would not result in injury.
  3. Never assume that a firearm is unloaded. Immediately open the action and look into the chamber(s) for ammunition, or if the gun has a magazine, carefully remove it before opening the action.
  4. Always keep your finger off the trigger, even when handling an unloaded gun. Your finger should rest outside the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. The only time you should touch the trigger is when you are ready to safely fire.

  Falling Plates: Action Pistol Match takes place on the 50 yard pistol range. Contestants compete against the clock to knock down six steel plates mounted on racks located at the 25 yard line. Competition starts 10 yards from the plates and progresses backward to distances of 15, 20 and 25 yards.

  EVENT TIMES: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Early (warm-up practice) and late entries open & welcome until 5:00 pm.

  4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: After practice runs are done, Squad #1 is up, followed by all remaining squads until we are finished (or run out of daylight).
  

  SCORING: 
  (4) different shooting class levels will receive weekly prizes & End of League Prizes!

  End of League Trophy Buckles & Ribbons:

  • 1st Place - Highest-Score Overall
       Runner Up -  Highest-Score Overall

  • High-Point Rookie
       Runner Up -  High-Point Rookie

  • A Class - Determined by % of hits
       Runner Up -  A Class
    

  • B Class - Determined by % of hits
       Runner Up -  B Class
    

  • C Class - Determined by % of hits

  All finished sharpening services include needed repairs, sharpening, cleaning and sanitized for $5.00. Randy will be at the Shotgun Range. Bring your items to the Range and he will sharpen them while you wait!

  WCGC DIME SHOOT COMPETITION

  Hit the Dime • 200 Yards • 3 Shots 

  Come join us for a fun and challenging shooting match. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, we welcome shooters of all skill levels. Our experienced staff will be on hand to help you every step of the way, from providing safety instructions to guiding you through the process. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to improve your shooting skills and have a great time!

  Up to FIVE sight-in shots allowed on sight in target. Shots can be from any position at the 200 yard Bench Line. Bags, rests, tripods, etc are all allowed. Closest to the center of Dime is the Winner. Limited to 30 Minutes per Shooter. All shooting is completed by Noon & Winner is announced. 

  Registration & Competition: 9:00 am - 12:00 am.

  $20 Per Person (Members) • $25.00 Per Person (Non-Members)
